Reading Schools to receive Business Boost with Business Class
A new flagship scheme called Business Class was launched earlier this month which will see businesses teaming up with schools in Reading. Business Class is run by the charity, Business in the Community and was launched in partnership with the Central Berkshire Education Business Partnership (CBEBP) and Prudential.
The scheme is an opportunity to improve employability and academic achievement in the town’s most deprived students. Statistics show that 9.2% of young people aged 16 to 24 in Reading are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and that Reading has a higher than average number of students eligible for free school meals – a recognised indicator when calculating the number of families in poverty.
So far, schools that have taken up this opportunity include Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School in Southcote, Bulmershe School in Woodley, and Reading Girls’ School in Whitley who are working with Prudential, Oracle and KPMG.
